General Carowinds discussion

I've heard from the kids that Fury 325 is a popular topic at the local schools. Peer pressure is going to sell a lot of tickets this year. None of the boys will admit to being scared. The dads are usually more honest.

I'll probably be scared to death (at least the first time) but my 12yo daughter is hell-bent on riding it so I'll be right there beside her. She's excited. Came back with a picture of it from the bus when she took a ski trip to west virginia,

Almost everyone is talking about it at my high school. We're about 40 minutes from the park and lots of people have already asked me to take them because I can drive.

My dad weighs about 300lbs and he rode on what was then Top Gun. He was horribly sick afterwards, and that was probably very dangerous (even on a B&M). I also know that Led Zepplin The Ride at the now defunct Hard Rock park had larger seats on one row. However, who knows exactly where everything stands now.

I'm cool riding a new record breaking coaster for the first time. That is until it leaves the station and starts the climb up the lift hill. I am terrified once it starts the first drop. I almost lost my freaking mind on 305 the first time out because the lift is so fast. I was like 'oh God no, make it stop!' I remember my first time on FOF, Volcano, and Hulk, OMG! I can't wait till Carowinds get a launched coaster. That rush is unreal. I'm going to scared to death the first time on Fury, but nothing is going to stop me from getting on.

On the discussion of attendance, I think Fury is going to help increase attendance this year. However, I think the biggest factor is Harmony Hall, the new food that they are bringing to the park, and the new shows. If they market that aspect well, they should appeal to a broader spectrum of people and really impact the long term growth of revenue from the park.

I have a lot of friends who have never gone to Carowinds and even when I tell them about Fury they don't care. However, when I start mentioning the food changes under Chef Kris, they are a lot more interested in checking out the park.

My heart races when I drive into the parking lot of KI or Carowinds or CP - the ONLY thing on my mind is the big roller coasters! Food (at least for me) is the last thing on my mind honestly.....But then you get hungry and thirsty while you're there and you start wanting good food, but the food isn't what motivates me to go...But, that's just me. Everyone is different

Right, I'm with you but us enthusiasts only make up a very small percentage of attendance. I'm thrilled about Fury 325 but appealing more to the non-park GP with good food and quality attractions should help increase park spending and revenue which in turn will help bring us more thrill rides. I know, the people who frequent this board and post here are primarily enthusiasts.

What I've learned while on my quest to ride as many coasters as possible was that early on I was missing out on some of the park experiences. Now we try to eat at each park and watch at least one show at each park to get the full experience. Despite my big talk, though, my wife will tell you that I strategically plan each trip with the primary goal of riding each coaster and everything else is secondary.

That's me exactly, also. I am only there for the rides. I don't care about the shows, games, or other stuff. Even with a season pass, I won't set foot in the water park section. The food is just something to stuff in my face because my belly is compelling me to do so, not because sticking food in my face is fun.

But I find it interesting how many of you say you have fear of riding Fury (or other coasters). I've never understood what others are afraid of, not even as a young kid. Roller coasters have always just been plain fun, never scary to me. Is it the speed? Is it the height? Is it going fast without being enclosed in a cage? Is it fear you'll fly out of the train? Is it fear that the ride will malfunction? Is it the sound? Is it the people screaming? I suppose different folks might have different reasons. I'd like to hear them. What is it about riding Fury (or other coasters) that causes you to have fear?

I am just giddy with joy over the position of the cameras. Don't ask me why. I'm just very happy to see lots of constant work done to both the entrance and the Fury Plaza. Not to mention the fact that the I-beams for the bridge are now going in. Just so you know.

Anyway, I can understand why some people are scared to ride Fury (or any other coaster for that matter). I was the same way back in 2010. I had never even heard of Carowinds then, only King's Dominon because my parents would tell me stories about the rides and such. Even of my aunt throwing up on their swinging inverter ship ride when upside down, lol.
But when I first saw Carowinds from the interstate (mind you that Intimidator was new and this was in April). the view of all the coasters frightened me, mainly because I was scared of heights. I rode every coaster at the park, except for Intimidator because I couldn't work up the nerve to ride.
All of those fears have left me and I'll now ride anything that you can put me on.

There's nothing to be afraid of. When's the last time that you've heard of a death or intense tragedy at Carowinds? Like, 20 years or so? I remember those two kids getting shot in the waterpark, but that was a LONG time ago. Everything about the rides at the park is fine. They are perfectly safe. Provided that you abide by all of the ride precautions and safety measures. If Fury were to stop at the top of the lift hill, it is because of the block braking system, or even the safety system. We also know why Windseeker stalls sometimes: the safety system activates.

All in all, you have nothing to be afraid of when riding Fury.
Sorry for the long rant, mods.
