Homey G. wrote:^ C'mon guy. Just don't ride? That's your solution?

I know right? And especially when there are bins at every other ride. I also don't buy into the crap that the load times will be significantly decreased. It is 100% about money. They know how epic this ride looks and that people will be shocked at the queue when they line up. People wont wanna turn around so they will buy a locker. I carry around a small gym bag with 3-4 bottles of water and my stomach medicine in case i get intense pain all of the sudden. I'm not less excited for the ride and im not trying to start a flame war here but i find it utterly ridiculous. Please don't support this guys.

If you don't want to use a locker and want to ride then travel very lightly or have someone with you that will hold your stuff. I do believe that it will help with load times, I have rode many rides at Carowinds and have sit there waiting for everyone to put there stuff in a bin before we can go. I don't mind waiting but it is faster if you don't have to wait on everyone that is using a bin. I personally do not mind the locker idea at all. It is not that big of a deal.

^^^Yep that's my solution for not wanting to pay for RipCord. It is one of my favorite rides but I ain't paying $25 for it. When it was $12 for pass holders I would once every couple seasons.

I don't mind the lockers at all. I usually have both of my cameras which fit snugly into my pockets and have NO CHANCE of falling out anytime soon. I literally have to pull on them to get them to come out of my pocket. I also carry extra batteries for both cameras, and my wallet. That's all I carry around in a park. I travel very lightly.

Obviously, not riding is not the solution.
Give me a break, rollerbee.
I will wear cargo shorts, but that might still not be enough carrying space.
We usually have multiple people with us, so having someone hold everyone's stuff is an option, but then we can't all ride together, which is lame.
I have a wife and two children with me. We have to have a certain amount of stuff.
This is a purely for profit move, just like when they did it at Cedar Point when they added Millennium Force.
If they are only concerned about not slowing down the loading process, or about items being dropped from the ride, then the lockers should be free.
They could require a deposit that you then got back even, but that's not what they're doing.
They are trying to make more money. Period.
The cost of admission should cover all things involving rides that aren't extra charge rides, in my opinion.

Well I know for sure at Cedar Point they will not let you in line with anything on gate keeper and millennium force. If you don't want to use the lockers, hopefully you have a non riding friend or do what seems to be the trend, leave your bag on the curb/sidewalks. I seen banshee starting this trend last fall too.

Are you SERIOUS? That is absolutely absurd. Will not be doing or supporting that practice.

Well don't go to a Universal. Sea World or Busch Garden park. That is standard practice there.

Every one of you complaining about having to get a locker will be the same people complaining that they are stacking trains.

I'm not a fan of lockers myself, but c'mon folks... They can't very well let the lockers be free because everyone at the park would be over there using them causing everyone to complain that there are no more lockers to store stuff in. Either put the stuff in them and pay the fee or leave it with someone not riding. It's not like they cost much anyway. No one complains about paying for lockers in water parks so why complain about them in theme parks? If you want to complain about the price of stuff, complain about a $8 drink or a parking fee.

Carowinds isn't about charging you for a locker to make a profit as I doubt they make much from them compared to other areas of the park. They are, however, about making sure that the $30 million dollar roller coaster they just purchased gets as many people through the line as possible. You know what speeds up the line? Short dispatches. You know how they get short dispatches? Open the gates and have everyone sit down, strap in and go. When they aren't having to stand around and wait for someone to cross the train and put stuff away and then get back in their seat hoping that they haven't already closed the restraints because then they have to reopen them and then they have to recheck everyone on the row and then someone forgot to buckle the seat belt before they pulled the restraint down so now they have to release the restrains again and recheck everyone for the third time and by then there is already a train sitting at the station ready to come in, blah, blah, blah.

The station plans did show a spot for bins provided by the park so there is hope that they will be added, if not this year, the next. So just sit tight and wait. Hey, at least we still have the option of putting everything in our cargo shorts unlike some parks - are you listening Universal?

I agree with Jarsh. It is what it is. If you don't like the locker practice, don't put your stuff in there or just leave it with a non-rider. Come on, you guys! What on this earth are you going to be carrying at an amusement park that you can't put in cargo shorts or a small fanny pack? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but really... What is complaining going to do? I think we'll be just fine.

I'm totally cool with just dealing with it, just saying it's another avenue to make them money.
They probably will have paid for the cost of the lockers after one weekend. It's mostly profit from there.
They do not make anymore money by getting trains dispatched quicker.
They do make money from lockers.
It's there prerogative so we have to accept it.
I realize the hassles people using bins causes. I actually worked as a ride opp at Thunder Road for 3 years, so I'm familiar.
Two examples of things that I'd want to have with me that I couldn't put in my pocket, I'd say my video camera and my digital camera. I like being able to film and take photos, especially of my children enjoying the park. I have a small bag that both cameras fit into, that I've taken on plenty of rides with me, including every coaster at Carowinds thus far, but I won't be able to take it on Fury, even though it straps across my torso.
That's fine, I just don't accept that they're only doing it to increase dispatch speed.
It's naive to say they aren't doing the lockers to make money.
They haven't installed lockers at every other coaster, now have they?

You won't be able to take fanny packs on with you either.

Edwardo wrote:Yes they do make money from faster dispatches. Less time spent in line means more time spending money on food and in shops.

But this also requires more time dealing with lockers (many people have more trouble with them than they do with bins). We can't say absolutely whether it will or will not increase the amount of time spending, as it depends on how much of their time is saved in the line versus the amount of time required to buy a locker (Obviously this will vary a lot depending on the person, how busy it is, etc.) and of course depends on how much they are willing to spend at the park anyway (many people go in with a set amount of money for food, games, and souvenirs that won't change if they're spending less time in line).

The cost at Wonderland for Guardian's lockers (which were an afterthought when they realized how awful the capacity of the ride is) is like two dollars for two hours, three dollars for three hours, which really is very little and just serves to deter people from using them for the whole day or using three when they could use one. I can't stand it either, and I usually end up finding alternative solutions (Cedar Point: Returning to the day lockers we had already gotten whenever necessary. Wonderland: Returning to the car to put stuff away whenever going on Guardian). It's just not good guest service to have people pay for bringing things with them in the park or having bought things in the park earlier in the day. As an example, if I have to pay to get a souvenir bottle at the park, and then pay to store it every time I go on one of these rides, I don't have as much incentive to buy a souvenir cup. Same goes for stuffed animals, ride photos, etc. Also, on really hot, sunny days, if people can't take drinks with them into the line, you are going to have people passing out in your lines! Health concerns, decreased incentive to purchase things, and dissatisfied guests.

And what about people who aren't wearing clothes with pockets? They're taking their phone with them into line and putting them in their bags to throw into a bin, but now they have to leave it in a locker or give it to someone in their group who does have pockets (groups of teenage girls wearing short-shorts with virtually no pockets are a prime example). If you separate people from their phones, more unsatisfied guests and you had better provide amazing entertainment while waiting! Guardian's line is partly indoors, but requires lockers because they don't really have enough space for bins, the station design makes it difficult to get to them (where they used to be), and it has horrible capacity! Millennium Force also requires it because they have separate load/unload stations. B&Ms do not have these problems so with these, it does seem to be a poor choice and feels like just a cash grab. It's helping capacity where there's no issue! And besides, increased capacity should not cost the guests anything! In a perfect world, we would have a system that lets guests put their items in the bin on the load side and somehow manage to retrieve them from the unload side so that it doesn't have to be a mad scramble of both people getting off and getting on fiddling with the bins, but I do not think lockers are a good solution. The park should deal with the less capacity as the guests do.
