Top Gun was brand new, and they spent most of the money on the ride itself than the theming, which is unfortunate. However, with the new ride being relocated from a park in the same chain, the ride itself is signicantly less. Hopefully that will mean the ride will be highly themed.
With the color theory, you have to look at it as if it is after a movie. When you look at the Borg Invasion poster, all the colors they 'tested' are there. If it is Star Trek, for example, they wouldn't paint it yellow and blue, or red and white, or black and pink. Look at Reptar, it is yellow and green. The colors coordinate with the theme, same goes for Top Gun. When the Hurler had its original theming, the trains were light blue with the flames - just like the car in Wayne's World. See what I am trying to get at?
