Holy Moly!! That's the commercial I was in!! How nice that you found that! There was about 40 of us from Olympic High School that got an excused absence from school to do this. Carowinds often recruited at Olympic back then. They would set up booths in our lobby with applications. We were the closest school to the park in the 70's.

I vividly remember the man in the front seat with the scarf and helmet. They didn't tell us it was Dick Van Dyke until afterwards. We rode at least 15 times in a row. Had lunch. Then did a Thunder Road commercial shoot. Thanks for finding that. I will note that the actual commercial used for Carowinds was very different and I actually spotted myself in that one. This one is way too fast. I thought I'd never see this again.

Sorry for being totally off topic but do you happen to know Jim Mullis? He taught English and history as well as coaching football at Olympic right around that time period.

Nice. I miss White Lightnin' Once rode it 9 time straight at park closing one time. (I didn't try and do that again. A wobbly walk to the car THAT was.)

On a side note, I know the parent company tries to same money by making one commercial and sticking a different park name on it. Seems they did the same for this ride. To me, that's just false advertising. If I see a commercial for Carowinds and there's a wing-coaster going by on the screen, I expect that coaster to be at Carowinds when I get there... not up at Cedar Point in a "generic" commercial. Again, I know they're cutting cost but.... just saying...

I do know that name. I think he may have been a student at the time I was there.

Well I agree 100%. One of my biggest pet peeves with park commercials. All summer long I was seeing Carowinds commercials with a log flume, a wooden coaster that wasn't ours (Ghostrider), and a number of other things that were NOT at Carowinds. Kids (and adults) are much more astute towards these things today. Enthusiasts or not.

Cool! I never knew Kings Dominion ever had one of these. I loved white lightnin' It was just plain fun. My brother absolutely is terrified of roller coasters. His wife got him on the one at the top of the mountain Ghost Town in the Sky. I think it was called red something? I can't remember....He about died from fear.......Anyway, when we were little in the 70s/80s, my dad took us to Carowinds and he actually rode white lighnin' and loved it. I remember we rode it several times in a row....but my brother is opposite of most people who fear coasters. Most people will ride them, and see that they had fun, and start loosing their fear, but his fear GREW as he got older and now he won't ride anything period. As an adult, if white lightnin' was still there, he would NOT ride it.

Anyone remember the old commercials for "Bigger Better Wetter all new Carowinds"? Or the catch phase "you ain't done nothin yet unless you've been to Carowinds "

Those still stick with me all these years later.
