The RV Resort opened yesterday, so hopefully that means there's still life in this project. The kart racing park, adventure park, and water park are planned to open next year.

I think deep down inside, we all know this project probably won't come to fruition. But I want it to happen. Grand Texas is an ambitious project and it reminds me so much of Carowinds in its infancy. The steam boat, the celebration of its state's culture, the plans for the shopping center and attractions surrounding the park just scream "Carowinds" to me. So I really, really want this project to happen. And I hope the RV Park is a sign that there's still hope in this project.

I've been closely monitoring this as well, and I am optimistic about the project. I wasn't in the beginning but they are making enough progress that it just may happen at this point.

Wow, the lack of trees is disturbing.
I'm used to campsites that are blossomed with trees.

Yeah that is a bit depressing. Might as well just park at Wal-Mart.

I have mixed feelings about the trees. Since it is in Texas, shade trees are appreciated. However, sometimes campgrounds have too many trees making it difficult to get in and out of your campsite. Additionally, too many trees usually = no grass which my dogs don't like. For those campers that travel with their own satellite TV also appreciate the option of no/few trees.

So after saying all of that, I do like campgrounds that have both options. although I will say that most damage to my RVs have been from trees in campgrounds including the damage from the low-hanging tree in my campsite at the beach this summer...

To add to my previous post, some shade trees are appreciated but too many trees end up causing problems in a campground. I see things like this at least once a year.

Four campers at Knoebels Amusement Resort were sent to the hospital after part of a tree fell on their campsite.

It happened at the campground at Knoebels around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. At the time, strong winds were reported in that area.

The victims are from Northampton County. Three of the four victims remain in the hospital. Police say a 41-year-old man is in serious condition, an 11-year-old girl is in critical condition, and a 4-year-old girl is in fair condition. An 8-year-old boy was treated and released.

I've been very pessimistic about the reality of this facility but every time I look, they really are making good progress. If you check out this overhead video from July, you can see they have done a lot of clearing. Maybe this really will happen after all.

I know water parks take less time to build than amusement parks, but I'm surprised that they intend to have theirs open by this Summer. Good for them.

My pessimism has turned to cautious optimism regarding this project. They seem to know what they are doing.

Maybe it's because I don't live in the Houston area, but it seems like they'd want to market the water park first. Unless they have been, it still looks like nothing's set in stone. I'm sure they'll get around to it eventually, but I just have a hard time believing that they will have it open by this Summer.
