General Carowinds discussion

Hurler is not a good wooden coaster, not even close. Whatever happens I hope they put effort into the rides setting. A couple slide complexes won’t make for the most appealing backdrop.

So I’ve been thinking... some on here who are “in the know” have been hinting at the word “underground” in reference to this attraction. And with it being speculated to be a launch coaster, and Cedar Fair’s trademark of ‘Copperhead Strike’, I got to thinking.... what if this coaster was launched from an underground tunnel? After all, what would be a more fitting start to a coaster themed after the Carolinas’ most notorious pit viper?

Now at first glance, this may not seem that significant, but this would actually be a huge marketing opportunity for the park. To my knowledge, there has never been a coaster launched from underground. Trenches and tunnel launches have been built, but it seems like a fully submerged launch has not. The closest thing off the top of my head with something similar would be Full Throttle. Would the second launch be considered a tunnel through the terrain, or an underground tunnel? Did I just make my point moot?

[EDIT]It appears to take place under a bridge.

Then again, there is Karacho, so yeah, it wouldn't be the first. :(

Karacho looks incredible. Do they make longer trains for an Infinity Coaster? I have never been on an Infinity coaster but I have ridden Mystery Mine at Dollywood which I believe is a Euro-fighter and the lines seem to go very fast even with a full queue. Do both layouts have the same capacity per hour?

^^ Gerstlauer Infinity coasters from what I can tell have the option to have a higher capacity due to the longer trains, but it really depends on the ride. Rides like Smiler and Hangtime have 4 rows of 4, while a ride like Gold Rush has 5 rows of 4.

Its no coincidence that this coaster is happening the same year the hotel is being opened. Locals are not necessarily going to stay at an onsite hotel. You have to draw people in from other states etc. Best way to do that is with an attraction that will make people want to travel. I know I travel to Cedar Point because of coasters I cant ride anywheres else. Carowinds needs more than just Fury to get people to travel accross country. Whatever this coaster ends up being, it will most likely draw interest from people outside of the state.

The park itself has said multiple times the hotel isn’t to get cross country guests. They want overnight guests from “Charleston, Southern WV”, etc.

Not enough non enthusiasts travel to ride coasters to try to draw from anywhere other than regionally. Much like the park (and CF in general) have often said.
