General Carowinds discussion

I really think Centurion and the roman theme would be phenomenal. I sincerely hope it isn't just a tease, but rather a hint at the 2015 coaster and the entire future of Carowinds all in one. Afterall, what better front "gatekeeper" than a Centurion Guard? CF did say they want to make their parks have front gate statements.

BTW, if they are calling Carowinds "Rome", metaphorically, and say that the Colosseum was an ancient world wonder, then we can infer that Rome is getting a Colosseum (the Colosseum being whatever the new coaster is). That's exciting!! A world tourist attraction!

Perhaps they are changing/upgrading the entire Thrill Zone to a Rome theme. A new coaster "Centurion' next year and perhaps a new flat ride in 2016? The Thrill Zone is a very neglected area of the park as of today. And you have to think that Hurler will gain some popularity as so many people will head straight to the Thrill Zone everyday because of the new ride, and also because of the smoother first turn that was re-done this season. Maybe they will re-name Hurler to fit the Rome theme.

Didn't I read somewhere how some top brass at the park stated they like the history and heritage of the park??? If so why go all roman and name it Centurion ? What kinda theme can a huge roller coaster have?

I don't think calling it Centurion would be anyless southern than half the other rides there. Its synonymous for "guardian" and (for the sake of the argument) "gatekeeper". The whole area doesn't have to be themed to Rome for one coaster to be called Centurion. The county fair isn't themed to Moonshine is it? Coasters and rides can have different names, styles, themes, and appearances without drastically changing the entire park.

Besides isn't the "vibe" of Carowinds what affects the themeing and with Harmony Hall and watever else they'll be adding in he future, I think it will over shadow any one ride's loose theme. And regardless, assuming it will be called Centurion, it probably will feature a rome-related mascot (ala the fake logo someone made) which is cool, but I doubt they over-do the roman theme. I could see it most likely being just a guard, a simbol for it being in the front of the park. That's fairly generic enough to still work with Carowinds' theme. IMO.

Well, I know that Steel Dragon is nowhere near that height, but it uses two chains on the lift. One chain first half, then the other chain the second half. Or even better, use a cable lift, or maybe even magnets to get the train up the lift hill. But I think it may be highly plausible...
