General Carowinds discussion

I love Pipeline Peak's new colors. Cedar Fair is really good at place-making. My only complaint is the lack of a mat racer. :(

Yea I heard the new mat racer was fun at The wet n wild.

And Down Under Thunder (now Hurricane Falls).

^^ Mat Racers are probably my favorite type of slide. I rode the one at Great Wolf and I would even put it above their Tornado. They feel a bit more out of control than your typical slide and the competition really adds to the fun. They add one of those to Carolina Harbor and I might spend more time in the water park than the dry side during the summer. The one thing that worries me about the park adding one is that they might just go with the straightforward model instead of one with a helix or two, but Cedar Point got Dragster H2O so hopefully I'm wrong.

I mean honestly. Why are people getting excited about this? It's literally nothing innovative.

They're tearing down one wave pool to build another.

And more slides? Please. I don't know anyone who enjoyed the old ones!
Just more mediocre slides.

This is nothing to get worked up about folks. And certainly not something worth removing TR for.

They're just adding the same stuff the park had already. and a new entrance.
The entrance is really the only new thing here.

Overall I was happy with the announcement. More slides can't hurt, even if they are generic. The lines are out of control in the waterpark on the weekends, hopefully these additions will help distribute the crowds. I'm not sad to see Great Barrier Reef go, most days I was there the waves were not operational, and a basic swimming pool is a pretty poor use of space in a waterpark. I have two small kids, so I was also excited to hear about about the expanded kiddie area, does anyone know whether they are demolishing the current kiddie area to build the new one?

I also liked that they are expanding the live entertainment offerings, in order to become a first class park, you really need diverse offerings and the Cirque-esque show looks interesting. I'm glad to see that Cedar Fair is doubling down on live entertainment when other parks are cutting it.

A new Starbucks isn't all the exciting, but if Disney is any indication, it will be always busy! You might not be interested in a latte, but if it is making money for the park, its good for us.

You also can't go wrong with new food and drink offerings, I'm excited that there will be more food options in the waterpark.

The thing that had me scratching my head was the inclusion of another wave pool, don't we already have a wave pool with interactive fountains? I think it would have been much better to upgrade the lazy river, the one at Carowinds is a joke! I also would have liked to see a water coaster like Crush and Gusher at Typhoon Lagoon (only larger and better). I think that a water coaster would have been a much better addition than a virtually identical wave pool.

I know this is a nitpick but I'm going to miss that. I always loved going right into the waterpark and getting cooled off, then going back to the main park. It'll be kind of a bummer that I'll have to go to the very back but I'll live.

^^ I'm actually okay with the second wave pool. More capacity. Neither one should be too crowded. And if Surf Club Harbor ends up taking all of Tidal Wave Bay's (Bondi Beach's) customers, I'll have a great wave pool all to myself. :D Seems like Bondi Beach is always crowded since no one uses Great Barrier Reef anymore. This should even things out.

Both of them were crowded when I went there so I don't know what you're talking about on that note...

Lastly I am still trying to figure out how this announcement is anything new. The new stuff I saw was starbucks/dining hall and the new entrance.. really?  That is a pretty mediocre announcement.

The thing is. The water park has had wave pools and slides. So really this is nothing new

The new entrance from Carowinds Blvd is a very nice, much needed addition as well as the new outside entrance into the waterpark. Gonna miss Thunder Road but there's no point in pouting about it now. I'll be renewing my pass once again as I have been for the last 20+ years.
