Personally, I found it to be an un-funny clunker of a comment--what do politics have to do with new roller coaster speculation?!

Now, to get back to fantasy land....since North Carolina is "First in Flight" (it's on every license plate, right?) could some sort of Wright Brothers-Kitty Hawk-flying theme work for this thing? It could be kind of a companion to the Top Gun/Afterburn concept, since that is supposed to be based on fighter pilot maneuvers. The name could have 'Flyer' in it...or maybe just "The Flyer". Not a wildly original name perhaps, but I don't think there are any coasters called 'Flyer' around these parts are there? And I understand the objections to another Carowinds "carolina" coaster...but "Carolina Flyer" has kind of a nice ring to it....

The biggest problem, though, is that a literal interpretation based on the first flight would imply that the ride would be 120 feet long and last 12 seconds!

To me, the beauty of hypers is the lightning-fast, smooth, swoopy, joyful, graceful, exhilarating ride. Yeah, they are terrifying to some but really, names like "Intimidator" don't exactly fit this type of coaster, IMO. I dunno--does it really need some kind of macho name to attract crowds?

Anyhow, bottom line, I'm with the others who said they will love this thing no matter what it's called, what color it is, and whether it has a theme or not.

ok, wait. I was so focused on coasters I forgot about the Phantom Flyers...so that might affect the name choice--but on the other hand, it's one more flying reference, which is cool.

speaking of Nighthawk--that actually makes it even better, as there would be three really different coasters sort of loosely tied together with a 'flying' thing going on. And--I just thought of this--the park is named caroWINDS--another kind of flying reference/tie-in. Oh, wait--now I'm on a roll (get it?! roll?! )--so, for our next coaster addition, say in 2012-2013, something really nasty & aggressive--it could be named/themed 'Hurricane' something or other--kind of like Carolina Cyclone's meaner big brother.

hey...is there some sort of contest I can enter to submit my 'name the coaster' ideas and earn a first ride?!

Remember First in Flight fans, Carowinds is in South Carolina as well, which historically has been a lot more friendly and has given more development funds to the park than our beloved North Carolina. So if I were going to give an attraction a state specific name, it would be something related to South Carolina. Let the South Carolina coaster naming ideas begin...........

A snake... say... "Mamba" bright Green track, Yellow supports, B&M can make more of those cool DB cars... It looks good in RCT3 too ...

This kind of made me chuckle, as nearly the exact same idea was talked about during the Borg/Nighthawk construction for a little while. I'm sure the threads are still on here.
