General Carowinds discussion

^ Give me a dark launch tunnel with strobes and fog that opens up at the top to simulate breaking the cloud line and I'll endure the hail storm.

If anybody wants to dig into this, feel free. I'm on a phone so it's hard. On ITEC's website it shows that they were involved with the development of the Daytona USA attraction. So, yeah. There may be some connection- though I really don't hope there is. :)

WindsWaker wrote:Awesome work 1095! :D With that, I'm going to go ahead and let my hopes get a little high for the theming side of project 2010. I'm really not a fan of the NASCAR idea to be completely honest. I don't see how a designer of Clafk's caliber could be fully utilized there. I watched a video of disaster transport on the tube, and that is some really intense theming. I think a severe storm / escape / chaser theme would be very easy here. Think storm warning sirens, radar screens throughout the station etc.

*sigh* This is all a wet dream of mine. Still, a man can dream right?

Exactly! I have always loved the storm idea as a theme for this ride...StormSurge or FireStorm are my current pet favorite names (you know--StormSurge for hurricanes....and FireStorm for the red track)--and I really love the idea of storm warning sirens, radar screens, etc.

fire·storm (frstôrm)
n.
1. A fire of great size and intensity that generates and is fed by strong inrushing winds from all sides

storm surge:
The high and forceful dome of wind-driven waters sweeping along the coastline near where the eye makes landfall or passes close to the coast...most of the surge is caused by friction between the strong winds in the storm’s eyewall and the ocean...

hurricane:
(72+ mph): air filled with foam and spray, waves over 45 ft, sea completely white with driving spray, visibility greatly reduced

Well, the park started off as a theme park based on the Carolinas... and we've had our fair share of hurricanes. By that definition, the theme is almost blatently simple.

"72+ MPH" and "Waves over 45 feet." Just fill in the rest with a little creativity...

NOOOOO!!! I left Florida to get away from hurricanes!!! :)

Well, that and I got sick of Twister during tech rehersal. Even though that's the only time I've seen a good vortex in the building. But yeah, spending 12 hours in that building listening to the storm sirens go off every 5 mins or so .... Ick.

Maybe he'd stopped designing themes but just couldn't resist one more bad*ss coaster. That and, you know, money.

You're right. Uhhh....color me confused. :? It's gotta be Eric. Everything like the IZ 12 E nuff points to it. Some possibilities:

-B&Mcoaster1095 spelled his last name wrong on here
-The website B&Mcoaster1095 got his last name from spelled it wrong
-Eric changed his last name
-Carowinds might be trying to throw us off so they spelled it wrong on purpose

May I also point out that none of the websites sourced mention this gentleman's last name?

Also, it seems like there is a lot of uncredited information:
1) "Head Designer for Cedar Fair" what... where did you find that?
2) "Head designer for ITEC" Agian, you found this whereeee...?
3) "IZ12ENUFF means this is his 13th coaster" Again, where was this information? Also, this is making the assumption that this mysterious fella hasn't designed a themed attraction in nearly 19 years.

I'm not discrediting the whole thing, but I would like to see some actual facts.

I don't know about #1 or #2. I looked all over Google and I couldn't find his last name anywhere either. #3 has gotta be right because the 12E in IZ12ENUFF is highlighted in blue with a silver background. That is a big clue. The 12E at Disaster Transport is blue with a silver background. There's nothing else I can think of that it would be.

Think it could just be a nod to the flagship park? Honestly this whole thing sounds a little fishy to me. Seems like people are too eager to come up with an answer, even if it isn't correct.

Edit: Haha, or maybe it's a joke. Think about it, Disaster Transport looks like a giant shipping crate anyways, perhaps the art director at Carowinds was making fun of it.
