General Carowinds discussion

Someone else may have mentioned this earlier, but I think some people are reading way too much into "record breaking" and "history making".

For starters, the term 'history making' is pretty subjective. One could argue that every addition to every park in the world has been history making in one form or another. It could just be history as in "Carowinds 13th coaster!" or making history by adding the park's first hyper.

As for record breaking... its important to remember that the teaser doesn't say World record breaking, or even U.S. record breaking. It could just be the tallest and fastest coaster at Carowinds (much like DB was Kings Island's tallest and fastest coaster) and that would be record breaking... breaking Carowinds' records.

If I had to bet money on it, I'd guess that 'tallest and fastest coaster at Carowinds' is the record/s this coaster breaks.

Not that getting just another B&M hyper isn't fantastic. Apollo's Chariot was great and Diamondback is off the charts. Here's hoping this one features the new longer B&M trains with the V-seating arrangement. Those trains are incredible.

Uh, that's how I spelled it, only I didn't make it plural. So, I think you mean last two posters.

Also, I'm not home schooled. The school system I go to is actually a very good one, thank you![/quote]
Technically, he was still right. No secret that schools up north have always been a bit better. You're not one of the problem children, don't worry.

Everything I hear about Diamondback is really good. If our hyper is anything close to Diamondback, I think there will be ALOT of happy people around here. And I can agree with all your other points. I think alot of that is just the company trying to hype up the ride a little more. That may be needed for the general public more so than the enthusiast community.

I believe our new coaster will be very similar in height, length and type of trains to sister's Diamondback and Behemoth. Same height, almost for sure, length could vary by a couple feet, either side of a mile and based on track layout and really, very likely to have those same type trains. Contractually speaking, I would bet that CF made the 3 coaster-3 year deal with B & M not long after acquiring the parks.

As for record breaking, it will be the tallest in the south, depending on the final height/outcome of the KD coaster. Yes, record breaking for Carowinds and the Carolinas. In my heart, I somehow wish it would eclipse Silver Star for being the tallest B & M anywhere, but I doubt it. Any way we look at it, this will surely be a coaster to "love" when it opens and sure to bring in the crowds to enjoy it!

Cool! We have track. Lately, I've become a RCT3 fan. A novice, mind you, but an avid player. Having no life, I designed this little baby for Carowinds. The link is below.

It's nothing fancy. No scenery, no special entrance/exit/station/signage. I let many details slip by me (eg, the station is not elevated). I realize it probably is a bit big to fit in the construction zone, but it was just for fun. It has a decent lift hill height and speed. The G's are likely enough to kill someone. It has two helixes, which (I hope) I read someone hoped it would.

To whoever came up with the "Red Lightning" theme, I used that as the title and color scheme (forgot to color the trains. sorry). Credit to ya!

Here's the link: http://www.atari.com/exchange/rct3/list?sort=submitted&order=desc&id=

It's called Red Lightning. Submitted by Ncline319.

Just to let everyone know, I went to kiextreme site and there is a thread that talks about carowinds 2010 project. It was stated from someone who lives in ohio near the B&M plant that there is now YELLOW supports at the plant. It stated that they were near the same color as DB.

I hope our coaster is not the exact same colors. Just my little bit of info to add.
Everyone with the updates good job!

There is one way to maybe figure out how "record-breaking" this coaster might be: how far away does Carowinds advertise (TV, billboards, print ads) using the 'record breaking/history making' thing? It seems to me they would have to be breaking some kind of record in every market that is targeted with that particular advertising. In other words, do they do any advertising in markets that have a competing park?

Also, it's hard for me to imagine that they would pump up everyone's expectations in NC and SC (and wherever else they advertise) about breaking records and making history, just for the sake of announcing a 13th coaster, or for being the tallest/fastest coaster in the park. Furthermore, potential park-goers from all over the country (and even all over the world) look at the Carowinds website--it seems kind of self-defeating to advertise 'record-breaking/history-making' to the general public if it is limited to breaking some inside-the-park record only. Having some sort of "est" earns the park some bragging rights, which makes for good advertising, which attracts more visitors (both enthusiasts and GP).

Don't get me wrong--I am sure this thing will be fabulous whether or not it breaks any "major" records--after all, we are often talking about just a few feet higher or a couple miles an hour faster than the last one when these records are being broken. I won't be disappointed if it doesn't break some big-time record--but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it did.

You would think that CF would atleast paint the coasters diferent colors. I swear CF must buy RED in bulk to get a better price. (hehe)

I noticed that it was a admin. that stated supports at B&M were YELLOW.

I should have put an "FSUNolez06 - CarowindsConnection.com" watermark on there. Oh well.

Sorry to take so long to respond. I am in Myrtle Beach this weekend. Going to Freestyle for the first time tomorrow. I stopped by our park today for a few hours on the way down here. Had to see the beautiful red steel for myself:) I just passed along an email to Duane asking him about it. He has been working on the site of late doing a lot of 'under the hood' type of work. I will let you know.
