The above aerial photo I came across is fairly archaic by now but displays the comparison on the boundaries of the land cleared a month or so back between the two amusement parks. It's probably safe to say the Kings Dominion construction zone on the right hasn't expanded since then therefore the aforementioned doctored layout has some ring of truth to it still.

Seems to me like King's Dominion is moving in slow motion when compared to us, but what do I know. :D

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like our land clearing is more than double that of KD. I don't see how a giga is going to fit.

Is there any thoughts it could be something like a Dive Giga? If it is actually a giga.

I have not been to KD in like 3 years, so i can't recall how much land is there.

I believe there is a rumor going around that the Kings Dominion coaster will have a vertical lift, which would make sense with the piece of land there. I don't know how much truth there is to that, though.

I find it odd the way the supports are being put in. I don't know of any coaster off the top of my head that has solid concrete between the footings. I wonder if maybe it might be something like Universal's new coaster?

I follow KD's construction as closely as I do ours, but I don't post there, and that rumor seems to have been squashed. At least, if you ask anyone there. Bringing it up apparently warrents a virtual flogging... I still think it's possible, especially since somebody made the connection between a funky support on site and a space shuttle launch tower.

You're forgetting that the structure for Kings Dominion is larger (supposedly) than the Carowinds project therefore it requires deeper set pylons, more concrete footers & further land grading (no parking lot there to lend a helping hand).

I doubt the side-by-side comparison displays the same acreage for both pictures since the satellite snapshots from Goggle Maps are not always taken from the same distance regardless of the zoom feature. Nevertheless...even if the Kings Dominion construction zone is twice that of what's found over at Carowinds it doesn't mean that all of it is gonna be used. Whether or not such a structure will fit within the perimeter...apparently it can be done but we'll have to wait & see if the majority of guinea pi...uh, 'ride warriors' approve of the design. For all we know this could be a really TALL over-sized wild mouse since nobody has seen hide nor hair of the trains!

I've read the scuttlebutt as well...seems to be unfounded right now. It was based on conjecture that if Cedar Fair, LP actually used theming it'd look somewhat similar to the below photograph based upon the supports now on site.

I follow the same pattern as you...far too many yahoos causing a ruckus. Only wish this thread would be a bit more lively...so deathly still. I guess this is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight.

Good. I really hope it is just a steep cable lift like Millennium Force. Vertical lifts are a bit awkward and uncomfortable I think, not to mention a bit dumb looking.

The only vertical lift I've ever seen I liked, was enclosed. They are pretty strange looking if you think about it.

I mean look at this science project of a ride. It doesn't even look like a coaster.

It has nothing to do with an established community. The people I've spoken with know what they're talking about because they've either been involved, seen it, or know someone who has done one of those 2.

Anyone on here could have posted that and I would have said the same thing.

And who says more major clearing needs to be done? It could have a very small width of track running side by side out to another point, then come back to the area that is cleared.

I'm not saying it will, but it could.

Also, It's only August. You can't gauge a coaster by how long it takes for it to be built and clearings to be made. They could simply be using different construction companies, building 2 different brands of coasters, and doing things 2 different ways.

We'll know on the 20th, and there's a 50% chance that what I've been told and led to believe is correct. If I'm not, it doesn't matter, because what I do know as fact makes me want to get to that park next year.

The rcdb link reveals all...

XCoaster at Magic Springs in Arkansas.

Going well off topic... I had the pleasure of riding an 'extended' version of that when I went to Spain a few years ago. The vertical lift and loop itself were both amazingly terrifying and surprisingly delightful at the same time. And the sensation speed was just amazing. Also the ride only has lapbars, no over the shoulder restraints, making it that much more terrifying.

Some pics..

Going up..

This part is where I shat my pants.

Out of the loop..

Yeah Hi.

Anyway that coaster isn't Intamin, but you can see more pics of it in my flickr (see sig).

Back on topic.

I hope the KD coaster is good. :?

One week to go til the announcement on the 20th.Some of the new parts delivered recently pretty much put an end to the vertical lift theory & they've expanded the staging area recently as well.

Has the park ever actually said that? I've been to their site several times in the past weeks and never saw anything to do with 2010.

EDIT: I see it now on their Facebook. Which I just joined.
