General Carowinds discussion

I have to say, this thing is far more impressive in terms of scale than I thought it was going to be. If you need an excuse to check this thing out in person, I certainly recommend hitting up Plaza Fiesta.

On a different note, has it been mentioned at all if the inclined helix (or whatever the official term is) will pull strong G's? It looks like the train creeps through this section of track on the animation, but it is just an animation.

Holy cow!!! I swear this ride could be finished by Friday at this rate. Unfortunately, we have rain coming in for Wed. so that may slow progress a bit.

Great sunset photos Wormy!

To charlotteguy02 - My feelings on the helix are somewhat reserved. It really depends on how hard the MCBR clamps down prior to entry. It's a "wait-n-see" situation.

It looks to be almost as tall as the trimmed 3rd hill so I doubt it's going to really whip through there too fast - but I haven't seen the new B&M trains run in person so it's hard to imagine the train bounding over the hills like I've seen so many times on Apollo.

The track is surely hollow. The filled track costs a ton of $$$ (sand) and is only used in certain situations where the noise is really an issue i.e. bitchy neighbors or heavily themed attraction.

Yea the cam is apparently dead :(.

If the MCBR stays open the helix could be fun, otherwise the animation seems to suggest it's more of a slow filler element to allow 3 trains to run. The animation shows that the first MCBR brake is magnetic so we know the run is going to have some deceleration... but how much remains to be seen.

The webcam is back online aimed at the new helix construction area.

Carowinds is really on the ball w/ moving these cameras around - I fully expected a non-moving single cam off the skytower to watch the whole construction site over winter.
