General Carowinds discussion

EDIT: Arby beat me, but no one reads the last post on the page. :P

These are just some quick numbers I pulled from RCDB. Rides like Thunder Road, Gemini, Colossus and other twin tracked coasters are only counted once. I think I have every park worldwide that could claim 10 or more coasters.

19 - Six Flags Magic Mountain (includes 1 under construction for 2014)
16 - Cedar Point
16 - Canada's Wonderland
14 - Kings Dominion
14 - Kings Island (includes Banshee, opening 2014)
13 - Carowinds (does NOT include 2015 coaster)
13 - Six Flags Great America (includes Goliath, opening 2014 - does NOT include Ragin Cajun which is leaving at the end of the year)
12 - Six Flags Great Adventure (does NOT include Rolling Thunder, which closed for good this month)
12 - Six Flags Over Texas
12 - Europa Park (includes 1 under construction for 2014)
11 - Six Flags Over Georgia
11 - Six Flags New England
11 - Nagashima Spa Land
11 - Hersheypark
10 - Knott's Berry Farm
10 - La Ronde
10 - Blackpool Pleasure Beach
10 - Wiener Prater

The "under the bridge" is just a old joke held over from the Paramount days, when it seemed like every year a "hyper under the bridge" was the most popular rumor. It got to the point where even the PR staff would joke about it during ACE events.

I don't think anyone REALLY thinks its going to go under/over the bridge.. do they?

LOL! Your list is more accurate than mine since I overlooked the couple of coasters that are being removed.

I almost quoted your entire post *just in case* wormy didn't read it all the first time.

I really think this new coaster is going to interact with the front entry way in some manner. The most obvious choice is to use the bridge in some manner. If they don't, I wish they would take the bridge out. It's not very wheelchair friendly and it is also a bottleneck between the gate and the park.

I was under the impression that the coaster would be exclusive to the NC side of the park??

That is right, unless it will be mainly on the NC side and only a small portion will be on the SC side. Personally, I don't want to see our plantation house go, but if they do decide to go the way of gatekeeper; I would love to see our giga (or wing or giga-wing whatever  ) go across the entrance then do a pass under the bridge.

Nevermind, I just took a look at google earth and saw the entrance is too close to the palladium for a gatekeeper like coaster. As mentioned before in this forum, Carowinds has not announced the removal of the palladium yet.

OMG! Could it be a B&M giga???!!!!

I hope that if it IS a giga that it's NOT Intamin!! Out of the Giga's I've seen, Levanthian looks like the BEST!

I'm still trying to wrap my head around Carowinds getting a Giga (if it is indeed going to be a giga) before Kings Island!

I cant hate on intamin. I have to say, overall I did rather enjoy I305 as it will def blow your socks off. I am kinda hoping for something custom from intamin...moreso compact like I305 that way it will be really different from I305.

And am I safe to say that the plantation house is far enough from the bridge that it would remain intact IF a coaster does go over/under it???

 I think so. Wish they would have mention the plantation house at C3. They did say they may make a museum one day at the park...

As for Intamin and I-305, I agree the ride is insane and will definitely do something to your socks.. I didn't get to ride it in its "original" form since I went when they had "tamed" it a little bit, but still grayed out or whatever for a lot of the ride haha. This year when I rode it with the new turn it was still just as intense, especially in the front it was just crazy. As for Carowinds getting an intamin, don't count on it, but I guess you "never know". I am about 99% sure it will be a B&M though, but who knows. If intamin did do our coaster, I would hope for something similar to I-305 as well, more like a custom coaster with a lot of high speed turns etc, but without the down time and re-profiling for sure...
