General Carowinds discussion

The only way I could see myself making the drive for Winter Fest would be if the rides were open. So this is good! Found it on their website.

"Come for the Rides"

Of course the holidays are even more cheerful when you can experience some of your favorite attractions. Select rides and attractions will be open for families and friends to enjoy together (weather pending).

Yeah, I was just looking at that. It does look like that the pink slides will be in the way. How popular are those slides? To any of you who are regulars of the waterpark?

Disclaimer: I literally was just now looking at that and figured that out.

Comparing the two, looks like the Pink Slides(what color are they now?) are in the way. Note that the Troika(Do-Si-Do) sits in front of Cobras' Cobra Roll. The walk between Wings and the waterpark is also wider. Odds are that the pink slide in be moved to the grassy area where Thunder Road was but if not that leaves the grassy area open for the next waterpark expansion.

The render cuts off just before those slides. My odds say they stay.

There's really no cohesive theme over there (we've got zombies and bumper cars on one side, and a fighter jet on the other), but I hope they do something productive to make sense of it all. Adding a Mondial Revolution and calling the area Carolina Carnival? Carnivals and Fairs are different, after all!!

Well there doesn't seem to be any reason to keep Yo Yo. Hopefully they will do something with that area in a few years, as it really needs a revamp

You guys made me look. But the pink slides are very close to that corner of the Wings building. And they are on the northwestern side of the waterpark entrance path. I think the troika location is fine. If the rendering is close to correct, then the wave swinger is going to force those slides to be moved. (or the rendering was made for showing the public a nice image of the rides, and not at all an accurate design for the placement of the rides)

Yeah, glad they added the "come for the rides" section to Winterfest. Otherwise it was looking like a "bring Grandma to Sunday School" promotion piece. Now the question becomes: Which rides?

I dont think they would remove anything from the water park for this at all. That area is big and all these rides could fit fairly easily. I do wish they had more info on the wings renovation. I would say they will probably change how you order your food and update seating etc. Would love to see some renderings one what they plan to do though, I am assuming the name is sticking around. I havent been over in front of cobra a lot the last few times I went to the park, as I ususally have my kids so I end up in the kiddie park and waterpark. When it cools down and I go to ride rides I will be able to check out the area. I didnt remember seeing any markings over there. Makes me wonder what the markings in the county fair area are for now because not one ride is going over there  I guess it could be for re-theming etc.

I don't "think" that. I also don't think that they would have spent the hundreds of labor hours repainting something they intended to get rid of. Moving them is another possibility.

I think the renderings don't accurately depict the actual locations of the rides. The renderings show a flower garden right in spot of the landing pool, and no slides at all. I think that's enough to demonstrate either the slides would get moved, or the rendering is just concept art to show the basic idea of adding rides near cobra, to the public.

^ I think they were saying that they may be moved. There is PLENTY of green space in Carolina Harbor for them.

I tend to agree especially looking at how they are understating the entrance to Carolina Harbor. They're not showing the secondary entrance to Carolina Harbor at all (the one that would be located on the other side of Top Scan.) Maybe this is their way of really making this the "Back side" of Carolina Harbor and possibly pushing for a future disconnect from the "rides" portion of Carowinds. Beginnings of the need for a second ticket.

The again, it could be just the way they drew the doggone thing. Half the time, the rides are drawn incorrectly, going the wrong way, wrong number of hills. Not sure the park, but one time there was a drawing of a coaster where the track didn't even come together right. It may be "Just a drawing".

There is no gate between Seaside and Cobra, it was closed off this season. Do-Si-Do will be about 70 feet in diameter as will Zephyr, try recreating the concept in Google Maps using that scale without moving the pink slide.

Last time we were debating over flag poles not rides. 70 feet is nearly width of the walkway by the Cobra Roll. Unless Zephyr goes closer to where Mini-golf was and Do-Si-Do goes closer to Cobra's lifts, there will little space for Electro-Spin.
